 Umohowet Taushi Yelayu is an award-winning writer & musician from the Midwestern United States.

As a published author, classically-trained pianist, & songwriter, he has received awards and funding from The Academy of American Poets, Sundance Institute, Artadia, Creative Capital, Foundation for Contemporary Arts, National YoungArts Foundation, United States Artists, The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Amazon Literary Partnership, Bloomberg Philanthropies, Ford Foundation, & The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.

PIANO

As a classically-trained pianist and composer, Yelayu performs regularly in recital and in concert. His debut album of classical pieces and original compositions will be available August 2024.

Yelayu’s photography focuses on nature as supreme art, as aims to capture the natural world, untouched by humans in some instances, and the natural world with influence from the human hand in other instances.
